Fostering Innovation and Collaboration – ‘Transformative Trends in Publishing: Shaping the Future through IP, Tech, Data, and AI’ organised by FIP and IRRO

As General Secretary of the Federation of Indian Publishers (FIP), I am thrilled to share insights into our recent groundbreaking event, “Transformative Trends in Publishing: Shaping the Future through IP, Tech, Data, and AI,” which was held during the New Delhi World Book Fair 2024.

Hosted in collaboration with the Indian Reprographic Rights Organisation and supported by Nielsen BookData, our event, held on February 10, 2024, at The Dome, The Taj Ambassador, New Delhi, sparked profound discussions among industry leaders, academics, and policymakers. Together, we delved into the evolving landscape of publishing in the digital age, exploring the transformative impact of intellectual property (IP), technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI).

At FIP, representing over 80 per cent of India’s publishing industry, we recognise the paramount importance of collaboration and innovation in driving sectoral growth. Affiliated with the International Publishers Association in Geneva, FIP is India’s primary voice in global publishing dialogues

Ms Karine Pansa, President of the International Publishers Association, travelled from Brazil to join us, underscoring the event’s significance. Her participation emphasised the global relevance of our discussions and the imperative of international cooperation in addressing shared challenges.

We were honoured to have  Dr. Subhas Sarkar, Union Minister of State for Education, Government of Bharat, as our Chief Guest,  reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the publishing sector’s growth. Dr Sarkar’s address highlighted the crucial role of technology and innovation in enhancing education access and fostering a reading culture.

We were also proud to have  Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Government of India, connect with us virtually and bless the audience with his valuable words.

Our event featured engaging panel discussions, keynote addresses, and interactive sessions, providing attendees with valuable insights on leveraging technology for innovation, harnessing data analytics for audience insights, and navigating digital intellectual property rights.

Moreover, we took the opportunity to felicitate critical contributors to the publishing industry:

  • Oswaal Books and Learning Private Limited received the Outstanding School Books Publisher Award.
  • AISECT was honored with the Outstanding Publishing & Quality Education Award.
  • Quarterfold Printabilities was recognised with the Outstanding Printer Award.

Their contributions have been invaluable in shaping the industry landscape.

Highlighting the event’s significance, the FIP office bearers emphasised the publishing industry’s need to embrace innovation amidst rapid technological advancements and shifting consumer behaviours. We stressed the importance of dialogue and collaboration in charting a vibrant and sustainable future for publishing.

Reflecting on the event’s success, I thank all participants and stakeholders for their valuable contributions. “The Transformative Trends in Publishing event has been a resounding success, thanks to the active engagement and collaboration of our esteemed guests and partners,” I stated. We are committed to building on this momentum and shaping the future of publishing in India and beyond.

FIP remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering innovation, promoting literacy, and advocating for publishers’ interests nationwide. Events like “Transformative Trends in Publishing” catalyse knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and collective action, propelling positive change within the industry.

Together, let us continue to innovate, collaborate, and shape the future of publishing for generations to come.
